the lunar calendar

In Japan, we used to use the lunar calendar by Edo era that is “Last Samurai”.

Our ancestors defined and named the Lunar calendar for 24 categories. The category based on the season nature and the schedule of farming, we can find how our ancestors lived close to nature and farm, how they counted the year by each seasonal changing.

In mid summer, the lunar calendar defined “立秋”, it means “Starting Autumn”. You know, more than 200 yrs ago, the temperature more mild in Japan, mid august must have started to be cold. We don’t feel Autumn now, do we?
It’s very interesting, vegetables started to feel Autumn. After mid summer, some veggies, especially summer veggies, growing slowly. Autumn veggies start sprouts, like cabbage, radish. More than us, they remember the weather from long long time ago.
